Typhoon Trami

We slept through this typhoon, but I wish we could have watched it. It was the worst one we have had yet. Not the worst for Japan, but the worst where we are. There were a lot of trees down..100-200 I heard. I also heard there were 80mph winds. Some of my friends said the wind kept them awake. Emma’s building at school has no power, so they are in another building until it gets fixed. And the TLF doesn’t have power, so those poor people who are in between homes are having to be relocated. A tree fell on one of the train lines, so it had to be shut down to get removed. Most of these pictures were taken by others, just FYI.

These were not small trees that got knocked down. Some were as tall as our floor or taller!

Crushed a shed.

This is on the way to school.

The normal gate we go in. Won’t get fixed until the goal tree that fell on it is removed.

Steven used to park right next to this car, right where the tree is! I’m glad he found somewhere else to park!!

Not our tower

The one by school

Weekend full of....food.

I realized most of my pictures are of food. And we even made way more than this! We had a potluck at chapel and took deviled eggs and blueberry dump cake.
School-wise, we are back to having our after school meltdowns. I was hoping it wouldn’t happen, but maybe it won’t last as long this year? She rarely has trouble when Daddy is home at least, so at least I get a break. This weekend I thought it would be fun to check out the Moritown Mall with her. And she enjoyed it apparently, but we went at lunchtime...so we could eat, but then it took a while to find the food places. We had KFC. It was greasy, but good. I remember now though why I don’t go out to eat by myself here, I don’t know what to do! I’m discovering many don’t speak much English, and I don’t know Japanese. On top of that, some places you order on a machine. I never know if they will take card or just Yen. That’s why I prefer American food...at least I kind of know what I’m getting...and we could eat with fingers instead of chop sticks!!! Unfortunately we left not too long after lunch. We did check out the dessert place and brought home some strawberry cake. 😋

She had to do chores before we went. I thought it would take all day. She was playing with the silverware, making it talk and jumping into the basket.

Girl was hungry! This is a basket for 2 people. The bus I have holes in them. The fries are wide and curly. The chicken was normal. I couldn’t figure out how to order water, so I told her we would get some from a vending machine.

Strawberry cake. It was super light!

Emma woke up one morning after Steven left, and he didn’t leave her a note. Apparently that made her sad. So he drew her a turtle the next morning.

Every 5th Sunday the kids sing!

After watching cooking shows, she wanted to bake. She made lemons cupcakes, and we made chocolate ganache to go on top. They were dense. I followed her directions, only making a few suggestions. They were edible.

She loves to pipe!

Decorated with sprinkles or lemon zest.

All done! She was so proud.

Having a friend over

Tuesday Emma was sad because she had no one to play with after school....Daddy was gone, being with me is boring, and it had been rainy and gloomy forever. (We actually had a sunny day today!!!) So I told her we would see if one of her friends could come play after school on Thursday. So I talked to her friend’s mom and she said yes. So the plan was for me to pick them up from school and walk home with them. Well....I had to get some car repairs done and they said it would be ready at 2:00, 10 minutes before school gets out. I figured I would have just enough time, but they randomly shut down the road from the auto hobby shop to the flight line and I had to go all the way around the other way....so I was late. The girls were very responsible though. Emma went and picked up her friend, and they walked home. I had told Emma that if I ever wasn’t home when she got home (sometimes we get stuck in traffic off base or stopped at the flightline) that she should stay home and just play on the iPad. So when I walked in, that’s what they were doing. Then they played board/card games and had snacks. They both had a lot of fun. Lots of giggles, and for once no one cared if they lost a game! They just had fun.

We are really loving all the “junior” versions of board games right now.

They took a selfie 😍

Sushi

Emma ha sheen asking to get sushi. I don’t know why. But today Daddy was home so he took us. We went to the place we went on our anniversary. I may have gotten fried chicken sushi. 😁 I just am not a fan of raw fish. We also got fruit....and Emma ordered a chocolate mousse cake thing. The cheesecake was better. But it was fun to watch her experience it. She even ate the seaweed and rice!! She loved watching everything come out on the conveyor belt.

And chocolate cake

Yum.

Weekend at home

Well, apparently we need to do more fun things. Emma has been making up things to write about at school. 🙄  This weekend we stayed at home, played games, she ‘cooked,’ and took care of her dolls, or ‘sisters,’ as she refers to them. Although today they were her daughters, quadruplets at that...and a dog, because 4 kids wasn’t enough. Her imagination is in overdrive lately.

Daddy took her out for donuts on Saturday. The glasses are pretend.

Making Daddy eggs. (Eggs mixed with mayo, mustard, and thousand island and microwaves.)

Pretending to be homeless.

We may have also gone out for ice cream on Saturday.

She has her hands full!

Watching cooking shows...for real.

I mean, yes, but no. 🤦‍♀️

Apparent to this is called double teeth. Hopefully the baby one comes out soon!

New doll

Tuesday night we went to Chili’s for dinner. Afterwards Steven told Emma she could go use her chore money to buy a toy at the bx. She brought her saving money, too, so she had more than usual. She picked out a doll. Her name is Alice. She has been taking very good care of her, as expected.

Dancing with her before school

Going for a walk

She is getting so big, doing her own hair.

Tonight was open house at school. This was in the art room, Emma’s self portrait.

Random picture week

We were busy last week, and I realize that now that I upload pictures. Tuesday was September 11th (busy for Steven), I had my sleep study on Thursday night, and Emma gave me her cold, so we were a little under the weather, and the Friendshio Festival (also busy for Steven). Emma had a great time spending the night with big Emma and her family while I did my sleep study (Steven was working). I’m just glad my sleep study is over...I didn’t miss any trains, and I survived the night. Today I am in Yokosuka for my CT scan. Hopefully soon someone will be able to tell me something!

This Wednesday was super busy: picture day, first day of PWOc and Awana. This is what Emma wanted for her hair for picture day. I told her that it wouldn’t show up in her picture, but she wanted it anyway.  So I took a picture. Isn’t the back if her hair cute?

Sorry this is sideways. This is Steven’s shirt for their tower run on September 11th. It has all 343 names on it. I thought it was pretty cool. They talked about September 11th at school, I think it is the first time I remember talking about it with Emma.

One of my many pages telling me where to go for my sleep study. This was my train schedule.

She loves her presents Aunt Suzanne!

Playing Quiddler Jr. We love this game. It helps with their spelling, vocabulary and math! And looks what Emma spelled. 🤦‍♀️ (We play a lot with Paris.)

So this weekend was the Friendship Festival on base. It is basically like an air show. There are 100k-200k people on base for this. Lots of food booths, planes, jets, music, etc. We weren’t going to go since we weren’t feeling good, but we got cabin fever and so we went for a little. I got fried Oreos, and Emma got a snow cone with strawberries on it. Mostly she wanted to see Daddy...and not the giant characters that were dressed up. He spent most of his day taking pictures with Japanese people in front of the fire truck I think. By the time we got there he had gone inside, but we did get to see him. I wish I would have taken more pictures....of things like their menus. There was a booth that sold only French fries, with different toppings: chili, marinara, carbonara, sea weed salt, etc. Many things in English are spelled how they sound, not how they are actually spelled. It made me chuckle. There were a couple food booths that had super long lines, like stand in line for an hour. Most weren’t long at all. The long ones were for pizza, and the fries.

Emma went around taking pictures. I was smiling for this.

Our balcony.

Legos

Her tennis shoes

I took pictures of a Japanese bathrooms stall.

Buttons for music/white noise, bidet, spray, etc. Usuall these buttons are on the toilet. The toilet was heated at my sleep study.
Potty seat for kids? And something else that I’m not sure what it is.

Cane holder. Mirror, not sure what every thing is for. They also rarely have towels or a dryer, so you bring your own little rag to dry your hands.
