Grace and Andrew's wedding

Saturday we all had our schedules : finishing up last minute details, cutting up fruit for the reception, doing hair and makeup. We started off the day with a big family breakfast, then we got to work. I cut up 8 pounds of strawberries, and then Emma went to lunch and fed the 'gooses' with Grandma Connie while I got my hair done. We got home and got ready...I curled Emma's hair for the first time. Then we headed to the church. Faith did Grace's hair, and they were finishing up when we arrived. The ceremony was beautiful. Emma was a little more unsure as a flower girl with all the people watching, but we made it down the isle. Afterwards we took lots of pictures, and it was nice to have our cousin, Michael, as the photographer.
( I can't wait to see all of his pictures; he especially got a few good ones of Emma. I took some for the blog and to send to  Steven.) Then they cut the cake, with a sword...Sting, from LOTR, for those who know the movies. Then they had the receiving line and their first dances. Everyone had a great time, and Faith and her friend, Alan, stole the show on the dance floor. Emma loved watching them. With no nap and lots of strange people, then having to behave at dinner time for pictures, and loud music, Emma was not feeling the reception for a while. But she found some friends to dance with, and the bride and groom and Faith and Alan came out to the lobby to dance with her, where it was quieter. After that she caught a second wind and pulled Faith, then Grandma Joy out to the dance floor, and danced until the music ended. She also helped us clean up, and carried all the little plants up the stairs. She was quite a trooper the whole night. Grace and Andrew both seemed to enjoy themselves, and even fairly relaxed. I wish I had a picture of Tory, hiding from all the people in the bridal room, just like when she was 9, the flower girl at our wedding. My dad's lights were all fabulous, and it was so nice to see so many from his family there. We were all exhausted that evening after cleaning up...just beginning to realize how tired our feet were. Oh...and Emma was very tired and apparently thought she needed even more help staying awake...she pulled the fire alarm.  My dad turned it off, but the FD still has to come. So we gave them the rest of the cake.

All ready! And then she decided she didn't want her flower crown...a result of being tired I think.

Almost ready!

All ready!
After the ceremony, having to be good for pictures was almost too much to handle.
Michael took one of these, I can't wait to see his...I was the flower girl for his mom and dad's wedding, and had a picture just like this with his mom. :)
Emma and Miranda, whose mom, Darlene, was our good friend growing up.
They had great fun!
She just wanted to dance with Aunt Grace.

Faith and Alan were impressive, Emma couldn't stop watching them...they did their best to not step on her.

I think we might have a few more pictures...but I will post them later. Now, it's time for bed!

Decorating and Rehearsal Dinner

Thursday we started decorating the church, and we finished on Friday. We started with the sanctuary (see previous post) and the gym (reception area) was filled with lights, completely done by my dad. We had goblets with flowers for the center pieces.

Friday night we had the rehearsal at church, and Emma did great being the flower girl. She had told me she was going to walk down by herself, but she let me come. I was the ring bearer, since the planned one couldn't make it.  We had BBQ for dinner, and cupcakes for Daddy's birthday, which was on Friday. We definitely missed him this week.

Happy Birthday Daddy!
Emma was a good helper...when we found jobs for her.

Deborah! A bridesmaid, friend of Grace. (Sometimes Papa Mike calls Emma 'Deborah,' since she was calling everyone Papa Steve. So she was excited to meet a real Deborah.)
Dale (minister) and  Andrew
Sisters, Tory (maid of honor) and Faith...who was filling in for the best man who couldn't be at the rehearsal.

We were going to sit in the pew, but Emma wanted to be on stage...at least during the rehearsal.

Cold, bottled root beer and yummy BBQ.
Emma enjoyed the cupcakes Grace bought to celebrate all the birthdays this week.
And then she made lots of silly faces for the camera.

Happy birthday daddy!

Wedding prep, day 1

Today we started decorating the church. I think the sanctuary is mostly done, but we still have a lot to work on in the gym/reception. There were LOTS of thunderstorms today, even a tornado warning and hurricane/car wash like rain and wind. I thought it was very exciting, but Pepper did not. She apparently had a very rough day at home alone and will be going to spend the day with Papa Mike tomorrow while we finish decorating. We were gone pretty much all day, but came home to get lunch and talk to Daddy. :)
Beginning of decorating...Lord of the Rings theme means lots of greenery.
At home this evening, no nap for Emma today: She found 'Papa Steve's' lip stick.
Radar this evening. I love this...during the day. Pepper is very scared of storms, and if we have them at night...well, neither one if us gets much sleep. This is Kansas weather at its finest!

Aunt Grace's Bachelorette Party

Wednesday night we had Aunt Grace's bachelorette party. We adults went to Olive Garden for dinner, then came back for pedicures, chocolate and other girl stuff. Emma hung out with Papa Steve at home during our dinner out...and it was fabulous. We also enjoyed keeping track of the weather...well, I enjoyed that part. :)
We went to pick up my favorite foot lotion at a salon...green dolly came, too.
Cheese!
Emma helped me with my toes.
