Almost there...

Tonight we are in Bakersfield, CA. Tomorrow we will finally arrive at Beale AFB. After we said our goodbyes in San Angelo, we got on the road about 1pm and headed to Albuquerque, NM, where we spent our first night. Saturday morning we did a little shopping and drove all over the city to have Boston Market for lunch. After lunch we drove to Flagstaff, AZ, where we spent two nights. We stop every few hours to get food, stretch our legs and usually we try to find a park for Pepper and Emma, but we needed a break from being in the car. We had gotten such a late start that we were just so tired from cleaning and moving and driving and changing two time zones...so Sunday we napped, shopped, swam, and relaxed. It was very needed. Today we got started at a normal hour and took two stops on the way to eat, get gas and walk around. I do have some pictures, but I will have to upload them later. I don't have them with me right now. But here are a few tidbits from our trip:
Emma has done fairly well in the car. Today was her best day, thankfully. We have a dvd player in the van, but she is rear-facing still. But one night we were desperate so we put a movie on anyway, thinking she could at least listen to it, or watch it in her mirror. Nope, that girl turns her head around to watch the movie. Can't be comfortable, but it makes everyone happy for a little while. :)
She has enjoyed all the parks, so has Pepper.
Pepper did not eat for 10 days when we moved from Idaho to Texas, and this time is a little better. She ate part of a bowl of food yesterday when I put Emma's leftover rice in her bowl.
Tonight I told Emma it was time for a shower. I turned the water on and started to get our stuff ready. The next thing I knew Emma had gotten into the shower all by herself...with her clothes still on.
I gave Pepper the majority of my hamburger for a treat after dinner. She ate it all...except for the actual hamburger part that she left in her bowl. Go figure.
Except for today, our schedule has been off, due to the time zones and traveling. The last two nights Emma has basically begged me to put her to bed. She only sleeps good in the car sometimes. Today she took two, one-hour naps...the most she has napped in a week.
Emma did NOT like swimming. She wanted to hold on to me very tightly or get OUT of the pool. She did, however, love the elevator. Pepper is not a fan of the elevator.
This trip started off interesting. For those that don't know, our Pastor's wife, Kim, has been battling stage 4 liver cancer for about a year and she was not doing well when we left. Then right before we left we found out that there was an instructor from the fire school that went missing. Yesterday they found him. He had committed suicide. With all of this on top of saying our goodbyes and moving halfway across the country, we have been exhausted. But our Lord is good, even in the hard times. He restores my soul, when I remember that He is sovereign, He is in control. We need not pray for the absence of difficulties and struggles, but only to cling to our Lord for He will walk through them with us.
I will try to post a couple of pictures tomorrow or the next day when I get some time.
