The tooth saga...part one!

Sunday morning...at 4am, Emma came into my room and said, "Mommy, I loosed a tooth." And held it up to me. I was obviously surprised, but Ada has already lost 2 teeth, so I figured she was 5, so it was starting. Then I checked her mouth, and realized it was a crown. They told us it was supposed to come out when she lost her baby teeth, but the baby tooth is still there...and looks gross I might add. I asked if it had been wiggly, and she said yes. I texted Steven, and he said we should call the dentist. And then we FaceTimed with him so she could show him. :) She was so proud, and he told her all about how to put it under her pillow for the tooth fairy. It was so sweet, she was so excited. So later that morning while I was getting ready for church, Emma wrapped her tooth in toilet paper 😝 and put it under her pillow. I realized she had moved it and told her we needed to save it for the dentist before we could give it to the tooth fairy. We went to get it and...it wasn't there! 😳 She though the tooth fairy had already come!! Um....I told the tooth fairy only comes at night, and then found the tooth on the floor. We do not do Santa, and I don't mind the tooth fairy, but I'm not into lying to my child. I asked her who she thought the tooth fairy was, who does she thinks really puts the money under her pillow? "Jesus!" Sigh. We were headed to church, and I just didn't know what to say. So I have the tooth, and the tooth fairy business is on hold until we go see the dentist on Wednesday....to be continued.

Emma turns 5!

Today is Emma's 5th birthday! We started the day by having her choice of breakfast: over easy eggs with naan bread. We took vegan brownies to school and I got chick-fil-a and came to school for lunch. We Skyped with Daddy after school, and then when it became apparent that she was already crazy tired, we ate an early dinner and Skyped with other family to open presents and eat dessert and sing. Apparently being 5 makes you crazy? I hope tomorrow there is less bouncing off the wall...the five year old book says this is the golden age of childhood.

Wearing her new dress at church yesterday.

She loves her babies!

It was so fun to take her lunch!

All the kids who knew me sat with us. They were very silly, talkative, and glad to have a mom to open their milk.

Emma usually comes home with most of her lunch... there isn't a lot of eating that goes on for any of them. Mostly talking and looking aimlessly around the room...and dropping food on the floor accidentally.

I love these books!

Candle time!

When I asked her what she wanted from us, she said flowers.

Her new quilt for her bed.

Emma loves to color, cook, help me, take care of dolls and babies, and be silly. She is leaning a lot in kindergarten, and enjoys being around her friends...big and little ones. And she misses her family greatly.

She made her own taco.

Then I had her do the dishes! She is becoming very  helpful around the house! And she makes chores more fun.

She loves to color and write...and thinks she knows how to spell.

Reading some books at kindergarten.

She found a Mario mask at the party store.

Playing with friends, and also mothering Liam.

Emma's 5th birthday party

This year Emma picked a Cinderella and Batman theme.  Emma's birthday comes right at the beginning of school, so we decided not to invite her whole class...and I just can't host that many people. We had about 20 kids and their parents today...a houseful, and we had a blast. We were going to try the park this year, but since the high was 103, we changed it to our house...good choice. We had Pizza Hut (thanks to our neighbors who picked it up), pinned the shoe on Cinderella, beat up a Batman piΓ±ata, had Oreo stuffed brownies and presents. I know most people just go out and buy a cake, but we enjoy cooking. And I think making our own birthday treats together is becoming a fun and yummy tradition...and  also a yearly reminder that it's not about how perfect everything looks, but that we are having fun together. Tomorrow I will post about Emma's fun during cooking. Some of my favorite moments from today: Emma's excited reaction to everyone when they came in the door. She was so excited that each one of them came! Also, I bought the Batman pinata because I didn't want them beating up Cinderella...figured Batman could take it. Guess not though...his head fell off after the 2nd kid. So we just hung up his body and hit that. :/ Kids didn't care...they got candy.

It was a good party for a 5 year old!

Helping make oreo stuffed brownies.
Oreo stuffed brownies
Vegan brownies..yummy
Pin the shoe on Cinderella
Licking the spoon is her favorite part...and brownie batter is the best!
Pre-beheading
Ashlynn wanted Emma to help: post beheading.
Ada stayed to play after the party.

It was so nice to have Ada stay after the party to play with Emma. It is more fun to play with your new toys when you have someone to play with...especially when Mom is too tired to play. Also, we will be very sad when they move in October.

She made me a play dough spaghetti birthday cake.
Got all the candy she wants apparently!
Presents
Pretty dress
Baby doll with a binky
We had a houseful!
Magnolia loved the presents, too!
We had lots of friends to share the fun!
These are a few of her slippers..we had to take them off bc it got too easy.
Silly girls!
Cupcake dolly
Playing nicely...quietly. :)
Happy Birthday Emma!

First day of kindergarten

😭😭😁😁

Emma started kindergarten a week or so ago. She was very excited, and not scared at all. She has become very independent, and needs lots to do. I think preschool was a good transition year... for both of us. I was excited for kindergarten, too. It's nice to be able to get all my work done while she is in school. She gets out at 2:15 so it's not a super long day.

First day of kindergarten!

She picked out her backpack the day or so before...we got a good deal, and Daddy said yes.

Emma,Riley and Liam, who's daddy just came home from deployment! Riley is in TK this year, but they were excited to see each other.

Second day of school: she stood there and smiled and said "we have to take a picture every day!"

At her table/desk. And I'm pretty sure her favorite part of school is recess.:)

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Mount Hermon was only an hour from Monterey, so Saturday after breakfast we drove down. I wish we had more time down there...but at the same time we were pretty vacationed out. We have been trying to go to the aquarium and I'm glad we finally got the chance.

Emma got to see a shark!

She loved Oliver.

The kids were really good.

Stingray

These are fish they colored and then went into a virtual ocean.

These 2 pictures were taking by Emma as we drove.

The rest of the pictures are from Brittney.

They had a Zumba dance party one night during camp. Emma and Holly went up on stage.

Checking out the touch pool...it was a chilly day!
