Baking

On Tuesdays Emma gets out of school an hour early. So today we got busy baking. I have been trying for years to find something she will actually eat for breakfast. Most day she will pick at whatever she is given. Every now and then she will be hungry and eat it all. But she has been eating her whole lunch...so at least she is eating. Today we were making some PB breakfast bar things. And then she wanted to make some mini pumpkin muffins out of her cookbook that she got for Christmas.

Baking with my girl!

Apparently we forgot to put our aprons on, she reminded me.

This is what we made from her cookbook. We didn’t add the stuff on top...although they needed it. We never put as much sugar as it call for, and we use coconut sugar.

Mixing
I couldn’t get her to smile, so I told her to make a mean face.

Then she smiled.

I let her do a lot of the work since this was in her cookbook. That made her happy. I try not to be a perfectionist, but it is hard not to correct mistakes...which you make a lot of when you are cooking at 5 years old.

“This is how I scoop it.”

Both are done. Both are too dry. The pumpkin ones are ok...probably would have been better with all the brown sugar they suggested. The others ones are good, still dry, but when I gave some to Emma she only ate the chocolate chips. 🙄😏🤷‍♀️

Walking to school

Daddy finally got to walk Emma to school. He has had in processing stuff to do, but today he had extra time. He starts work Sunday, 24 hour shifts. Anyway, Emma has been waiting fo this day. All th way to school she kept saying, “I know how to get there, follow me.” Also, since she has a new watch, she tells us the time, a lot. She is getting less frequent, but the first couple days it felt like every couple minutes.
Tonight we went to Chili’s for dinner, and it was fun. Thankfully we have had nice weather since we are still walking and taking the shuttle. We finally got our driver licenses today, but now we are on to the car buying process. I have a friend that wants to give us a car, but I not sure when we will get it.

Walking to school

Whenever Emma gets upset/angry, she usually needs some space, and then comes back with a note hat she has written about how she feels. Sometimes it’s “no mom no mom no mom,” if she feels I have been mean or unjust in some sort of way. Sometimes it says that I need to say sorry to her. (Her opinion may or may not be correct in any given situation, she’s 5 after all.) This was today’s note. It was a good one. She was mad at me because I wouldn’t let her wake Daddy up from his nap so she could show him the green butterfly she made for him. (She was pretty hungry during this time.) She threw a fit and I told her to go to her room and calm down because Daddy wanted to go out for dinner and I wasn’t taking any little girls with a bad attitude. So this is what she came out with. It says,  “I’m sorry for having a bad way. I will not have a bad attitude when I get out of there (her room.)” with a picture of her crying.

This was on the back. I do like that she has found a more or less productive way to express her feelings and approach problem solving. And I’m glad her notes are not all about how mean I am.

Muthrs Day

Yesterday Emma and I ran some errands after school. I need to print some stuff off at the library since our printer cord got pack with storage (we think, we can’t find it). We also needed a few groceries and to check the mail. She begged to go to the BX, she wanted to buy a card for me. I told her it would be easier to do that with Daddy, but she HAD to do it now, of course. So I stayed in another isle, handed her a $5 bill, and tried to not look. She was very proud of herself...until she realized she forgot the envelope. So she just made one at home. Then she gave me my card.

It was a birthday card, one we had gotten for someone else I think, but she wrote her own message inside. 😍 It was so sweet, and she did it all by herself, which was my favorite part.

Daddy got her all riled up before bed. But she went right to sleep anyway.

We have all missed having Daddy around to horseplay with Emma! Mommy is not very good at it. Or being silly.

May Day Baskets

Daddy loves May Day. So yesterday he and Emma made baskets of flowers and hung them on the neighbor’s doors. I did not help at all! (I was baking.)

First they made the baskets.....much easier than what I attempted last year.

Then we all rode the shuttle and they bought flowers and I went to the commissary.

This is actually one of Daddy’s favorite holidays.

They put them on all the doors, then rung the doorbells and ran home.
we met 2 new neighbors this way.

Daddy's Home Video

Here is the video when Daddy came home.

Singing at church

Today there was a combined service at the main base chapel. It was a youth Sunday, so the youth ran everything. The children sang a song. Emma did great! Note: She had just gotten a watch , and you can catch her checking her watch in the video, silly girl.

Long Day

Today was a long day. Emma has been getting eaten alive by something and her bug bites are really bothering her....even at night. It made for a rough night. But we had stuff to do. We ventured out together on the shuttle to go to main base. We had a lot to do. Steven needed to go to the cell phone place to get a plan. He also wanted to go to the gym to workout. We needed groceries and stuff from the bx. We needed to check mail and return library books. And I thought we could go by the lemon lot. Well...that turned out to be too ambitious. Somewhere along the way Emma’s bug bites were bothering her a lot, and that with being tired and hungry did not look good for running errands. So after the bx she and I came back home and Daddy finished the errands. It’s taking some time to figure this all out...it will be better when we get a car though. Right now we just need to try to not do to much.

Daddy put up his hammock again. Emma always wants to be in it with him. At least when they were reading she wasn’t wiggling.
