Swimming
Wednesday was Steven's birthday. Although none of the day went as planned, I think it turned out ok. He got to work out and go swimming, and of course cake and presents and Texas Roadhouse for dinner. He has been pretty bummed that it has been so cold and rainy because he wanted to swim a lot. But it was just warm enough Wednesday afternoon that we could go for a little. However, it would have helped if we had gone to the same pool as Steven's parents since they had all the towels...oh well. Emma loved swimming, even though towards the end she was pretty chilly. She didn't want to get out of course..."I still swimming!" We will have lots of fun at the pool this summer.
Donuts with Grandma
Monday I woke up and discovered that it was a holiday...which means that normal people have the day off. And since I had to eat something with my steroid meds, I thought it would be fun to get some donuts. And it was fun...

Day with Grandma Connie and Aunt Suzanne
Last Thurdsay we spent the day with Grandma Connie and Aunt Suzanne. We ate lunch, went to a park, and had to bring Emma back for a nap since she stayed up late. So I got to go shopping and then we went to Gage Park, rode the train and played. It was a good day.

The last band banquet
It We have talked about this day for a long time...the last band banquet. In our family high school band was a right of passage. I remember when Faith finally got in high school and was in band...like she finally understood some of what Grace and I had done. When Tory got Mr. Evans as a sixth grader, she seemed to fit more easily with us...it gave us all something in common even though we were so spread out in ages and distance. Band was always a big part of our lives. Tory picked trombone bc she wanted to do something the rest of us hadn't done. She chose well. She surpassed all of us by winning the John Phillips Sousa award for excellence in band...it was a perfect ending to the night and to our time with the Topeka West Charger Band. After 21 years, Mr. Evans will no longer have a Rose in any of his bands. But music will always be part of us, and the band at Topeka West will always be family. After all, that is where our little family got it start.
The fan
Emma loves fans. I have a picture of her from a long time ago when she was sitting with Grandma Connie enjoying the fan. She was being silly with it, making funny faces and noises. And not much has changed. She did the same thing last week. What a silly girl! Click below for the old pictures of the fan.
